The South Wales RocknRoll Club
In the early 1990s Mike & Beryl
used to put on charity Rock n Roll dances at the Electricity Club
in Cardiff, about four times a year. They were always a good night with about
150 people attending . We had a live group such as The Rimshots, Route 66, White
Lightning and a rockin d.j. spinning the wax. People enjoyed the dances
and asked us to put on dances more often. So in July 1993 The South Wales RocknRoll
Club was born.
Beryl (a recycled rock n roller) was joined by Phil and Rob two younsters who enjoyed the music and they formed the original committee. We charged £3 per year membership and every member got a £1 discount off the entrance fee to the dances, we also put out a newsletter every two months with details of club dances and other clubs gigs and any other info we could gather. Now we just do 4 newsletters per year to help keep costs down. The first year was quite successful and we enjoyed a dance every moth with a live group and a rockin DJ. Unfortunately at that time the old style rocknrollers and the new generation rocknrollers didn't get on very well so there was quite a divided split. Phil left Cardiff soon after, so it was left to Beryl and Rob to continue running the club. We survived the second year just, and at the end it was doubtful that we would be able to continue
Rob also left to live and work in west Wales. So now it was Beryl left to carry on.
Mike, always a great support was backing the club and suggested we try one more dance and if it failed then we would call it a day. It was now Aug 1995 we booked Big Boy Bloater and His Southside Stompers , and did we have a good night?? Yes we did , that night we had a sell out the RocknRollers and the Lindy Hoppers all got on well together, and it seemed that all past problems were forgotten and its still the same today
We have made many friends through the club, and look forward to our monthly dances..Details of all our dances can be found on this website.
Thank you for visiting our website and keep on rockin
